Dangerously Delicious Peanut Butter Layered Cake!
Ingredients
Makes 1 9-inch 3 Layer Cake
Peanut Butter Cake Ingredients
- 3 boxes of French vanilla cake mix
- 3 C whole milk
- 1 1/2 C unsalted sweet cream butter softened
- 9 large eggs
- 3/4 C peanut butter
Peanut Butter Frosting Ingredients
- 3 C unsalted sweet cream butter
- 1 C peanut butter
- 6 C powdered sugar
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 5 tbsp heavy whipping cream
- 1 piping bag with large star tip
Peanut Butter Drizzle Ingredients
- 2 C peanut butter softened
- 1 large disposable piping bag
Instructions
-
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Spray three 9-inch cake pans with baking spray and set aside.
-
Using a standing mixer, beat together all peanut butter cake ingredients until thoroughly combined and smooth. Be careful not to overmix.
-
Evenly scoop the peanut butter cake batter into the three prepared cake pans.
-
Bake in the preheated oven for 25-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of a cake comes out clean.
-
Allow the cake layers to cool completely in their pans before attempting to remove them.
-
Once cooled, carefully remove the cakes from the pans and place them onto a cutting board.
-
Using a cake slicer or a large serrated knife, carefully carve off any domes from the top of each cake layer to create a smooth, level surface for stacking.
Frosting Directions
-
Using a standing mixer, beat together all peanut butter frosting ingredients until the mixture is smooth and stiff peaks form.
-
Scoop about 1 cup of the prepared frosting into a piping bag fitted with a large star tip. Set aside for decoration.
-
Place one leveled cake layer onto a 10-inch cake board or serving platter.
-
Scoop about 1 cup of frosting into the center of the first cake layer and spread it evenly over the top, reaching close to the edges.
-
Carefully place the second cake layer directly on top of the frosted first layer.
-
Spread another cup of frosting evenly over the top of the second layer.
-
Place the final cake layer onto the second layer of frosting.
-
Using the remaining frosting, generously frost the entire cake – top and sides – smoothing it out as desired.
-
Carefully transfer the frosted cake (still on its board/platter) to the fridge and chill for at least 1 hour to allow the frosting to firm up.
-
After chilling, remove the cake from the fridge.
-
For the peanut butter drizzle, scoop 2 cups of softened peanut butter into a microwave-safe bowl. Heat for 30 seconds, or until it reaches a slightly softened, pourable consistency (do not overheat).
-
Transfer the softened peanut butter into a large disposable piping bag and snip off a small corner of the tip.
-
Pipe beautiful drips of peanut butter around the top edge of the cake, allowing them to gently run down the sides. Then, pipe a large dollop of peanut butter into the center of the cake’s top.
-
Gently smooth the central peanut butter dollop evenly across the top of the cake.
-
Using the reserved frosting piping bag, pipe decorative dollops or rosettes around the top edge of the cake.
-
Slice, serve, and enjoy your incredibly delicious Peanut Butter Layered Cake!
